Empowering Stroke Survivors on Their Recovery Journey
Welcome to my stroke recovery and rehabilitation journey. My mission is to provide stroke survivors and caregivers with expert guidance, practical tools, and inspiring support to navigate the path to recovery.
My Story
On April 8th 2008 I suffered a Ischemic Stroke. My stroke was caused by a blockage in an artery that supplies blood to the brain due to a clot. Yep! I had a blood clot in my brain. The severity of a stroke’s impact can vary widely depending on factors like the part of the brain affected and how quickly treatment is received. Immediate medical attention is critical for improving outcomes and reducing long-term disabilities associated with major strokes.
Unfortunately, no one was home but me and our dog for almost 4 hours. Yeah the stroke affected the entire right side of my body leaving me partial paralyzed. I had to relearn everything from moving around to speaking because I was mumbling for a while. It was hard for me to just perform the simplest daily tasks. I spent 2-3 weeks as a in patient at Piedmont Hospital before I was transferred to the Shepherd Center because my stroke was so bad that I needed to in a intensive rehabilitation program to help me with my recovery. So I spent about 90 days as a in house patient to learn just about everything all over again. Then I had six months of outpatient recovery with the Shepard Center.
My progress was slow, painful, and often frustrating because I had lost control of my right foot so I could not walk as well. It’s been a long battle for me but I refused to give up. Even today the effects still remain from my stroke I have a crooked smile from the loss of muscle in my face and if I try to smile real hard I will scare myself. SMH. I can walk now even tho I walk with a limp but I call it my pimp walk, I still somewhat struggle with speech challenges but I continue working through the aftermath of my stroke everyday. Also going through my second year, I began having seizures off and on but we got that under control with medication and its been at least close to fourteen years with no occcurences since then. That was just adding another layer to my journey. I know what it’s like to feel lost trust me I’ve been there and done that. Sometimes I wonder if things will ever get better but I also know that every small step forward does matters.
If you’re on this journey, I want you to know you’re not alone. I witnessed the firsthand challenges that stroke survivors face. So now I recognized the need for a platform dedicated to providing reliable recovery resources. Whether you’re a survivor or a caregiver. I understand the journey can be overwhelming because it was overwhelming for me. Sometime it is still overwhelming after 17 years. That’s why I have created this space to offer valuable insights, products. That’s why I created my website to share resources, support, and rehabilitation tools to help stroke survivors navigate this difficult road.
But through it all, I’ve learned that recovery is possible not just physically but mentally and emotionally.
